GM St. Catharines gives Niagara College a boost

Local business continues to support higher learning in St. Cathrarines and Niagara. General Motors St. Catharines has donated 12 new Chevrolet Equinox transmissions to Niagara College so students in the Motive Power Technician program can learn with the latest in automotive technology.

“We have a longstanding relationship with Niagara College. Our mutual interests in education and training are unparalleled,” said Gary Athoe, plant director, GM St. Catharines, “Many of our new team members are graduates of Niagara College and today’s donation is just one more step in our ongoing support of the College’s hands-on experiences.”

GM is among the largest employers in St. Catharines and a proud partner supporting our community in a number of way, such as through the United Way and Coldest Night of the year as well as a long history of supporting Niagara College and its students. 

“We are always looking at new ways to innovate our curriculum to ensure our students receive the best career preparation, and GM continues to be a strong supporter of the next generation of automotive technicians.”

Niagara is home to Brock University and Niagara College, post secondary institutions with a combined student population of more than 29,000. As they graduate, these students help enhance the St. Catharines Advantage by providing local employers with highly educated, skilled and eager talented pool.
